The connection between Self Awareness & Independent Freedom
This is your call to dive deep into the philosophy behind this month’s Jivamukti practice! The knowledge that unbounded awareness is the true identity of the deity shiva/shakti, and understanding that this is no different to one’s own essential nature.
Chitta Svatantrya: The Connection Between Self-Awareness and Independent Freedom
In our quest for freedom and independence, we often overlook the profound truth that true liberation originates from within.
The Sanskrit term Svatantra, meaning “independence” or “freedom,” encapsulates the idea that our ability to shape our world is intrinsically linked to our inner development. This blog explores the intricate relationship between self-awareness and personal freedom, and how cultivating a deeper awareness can enhance our lives.
What Does True Freedom Mean?
As we navigate our daily lives, it’s essential to stand to attention—becoming acutely aware of what we allow to penetrate our consciousness. Our external experiences directly impact our inner state, and conversely, our internal dialogue influences how we perceive the world around us.
It’s crucial to recognise that all activity is an artistic expression of universal consciousness seeking to manifest through our individual consciousness. This dynamic interplay can sometimes resemble a joyous dance, while at other times, it may be a tragic play. Regardless, if we approach this artistic expression with curiosity and tenacity, further conscious exploration reveals the magic that is always available to us.
How Does Self-Awareness Foster Independence?
Shiva Tantra teaches us that complete self-awareness equates to complete freedom. However, modern society often leads us away from this notion, conditioning us to believe that external circumstances dictate our sense of freedom. Many equate financial wealth with independence, yet while material resources can provide comfort, they do not inherently grant true freedom.
To experience genuine liberation, we must embark on a journey of self-discovery. Complete freedom arises only when we know ourselves profoundly. This knowledge transcends superficial understanding, leading to a freedom so limitless that it can only be truly experienced.
“Just as cloth is repeatedly dipped into dye to achieve a rich colour, our continued practice immerses us in the light of divine consciousness.”
Are You Ready to Dive Deep into Your Inner Self?
The manas (mind) and buddhi (intellect) are shaped and sustained by our awareness in every moment. Understanding concepts like samavesha nyaya (illuminative immersion) illustrates the importance of our meditation practices. Just as cloth is repeatedly dipped into dye to achieve a rich colour, our continued practice immerses us in the light of divine consciousness.
How Can Meditation Transform Your Awareness?
Meditation is a vital practice for expanding conscious awareness. In Jivamukti Yoga, Dhyana (meditation) is one of the key aspects of practice & another powerful method is through Nada, or the awareness of sound. Mantras chanted become vessels of consciousness, much like a small boat navigating from the waves that are our individual consciousness into the vast ocean of universal awareness.
During our asana practice, eclectic beats elevate our awareness, while in savasana (relaxation), we are serenaded by the calming sounds of Native American, Japanese, and Mayan style flutes played by @lookingflutes Arran Burton. These soothing melodies guide us into Dhyana (meditation), where we experience Anahata Nada, connecting with the celestial symphony that resonates within our being.
Are You Ready to Enhance Your Life Through Awareness?
Becoming more aware can significantly enrich our lives. It allows us to break free from the constraints of conditioned thinking and social expectations, leading to a more authentic existence. As we deepen our self-awareness, we cultivate a sense of independence that empowers us to shape our reality.
