The philosophy behind the day
The Harvest Moon takes its name from a time when its light, rising close to sunset for several evenings, gave farmers precious extra hours to gather their crops before the first autumn frosts. For me, there is something beautiful in that imagery. This is our opportunity to consider our own harvest.
As we approach the Autumn Equinox and the fullness of the Harvest Moon, we find ourselves at the threshold between the outward energy of summer and the quieter, more reflective months ahead.
Before we turn inward, what do we want to bring into fullness?
What has been growing within us this year?
And where are we ready to take up a little more space?
Our physical practice will explore Vyana Vayu, the expansive current of energy that moves from our centre out towards the periphery.
Expect a dynamic, spacious asana practice…
…with backbending, reaching, growing and lengthening, opening ourselves physically and energetically to that sense of expansion. From there, we’ll transition into an extended Savasana, allowing everything we’ve awakened to settle into the body.
We’ll then move through intention-setting and breathwork before closing in meditation, creating an intention to carry with us towards the fullness of the Harvest Moon and into the changing season.
This is a chance to honour what has grown, gather what matters and step into autumn feeling grounded, purposeful and connected to our own natural rhythms.
